Eva Zar is a New York–based director and photographer. Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, to Dagestani immigrant parents, she began her career at 19 on a year-long assignment for Vice. Soon after, she relocated to New York City, where she has been based for nearly a decade.
While her early experience at Vice shaped her fascination with subcultures and intimate storytelling, she went on to study at the renowned Parsons School of Design, where she received a full scholarship.
Eva’s work has taken her from photographing trans icons on horseback in the Californian desert to shooting RIAA-certified platinum album covers. Her exploration of queer youth culture in Brooklyn became the foundation for a career creating global OOH campaigns for beauty, fashion, and entertainment brands and magazines.
Over the past two years, Eva Zar has been photographing God Is A Stripper, her biggest personal project to date. She spent countless hours in strip clubs and in stripper’s homes. You can read more about it in her latest features on Dazed and Vice.
